Things I Think About

Snowy Days Provide Perfect Day For Planning and Introspection!

It’s a beautiful snowy day here at my place; not a lot, maybe 4 or 5 inches. Nonetheless, it gives me a good day to stay inside at my favorite work spot, the local small coffee house, and review what I’ve been doing and plan out where I’m going to take my business this year.

Finding A USP (Unique Selling Proposition)

There is one thing I see everyday across the internet which I believe is a main cause of the failure of many part-time internet marketers.  And that’s trying every new shiny object, promoting a little of everything, trying to learn (and teach others) all kinds of things, but they never settle on one area to focus on.  If this is the case for you, not only is this a problem for yourself in having to keep up with and learn so many things, but you’ll also never develop the following from others you’re looking for.

You’ve got to create your USP (unique selling proposition) in order to garner a large following, something that you’re an expert at, something you’re known for.  But if that’s a struggle for you, don’t worry, it was the toughest thing for me. I was able to learn all this internet marketing “stuff” quite easily, picking up on strategies, learning this and that…but for the longest time

I couldn’t figure out what to center my business around and create a USP around.

Here’s a few for instances to get your ideas flowing:

  • Perry Marshall – Google AdWords
  • Mike Dillard – Attraction marketing and creating your own MLM leads
  • Pat Flynn – Online passive income
  • Leslie Rohde and Dan Thies – SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Room For Improvement

In reviewing and thinking about this, I know I have a lot of room for improvement in this area for my business. I’ve long had the focus of my business on helping people create a different kind of income in their life, a passive income.  Unlike the traditional linear income (work X hours, receive X dollars), a Passive Income involves setting up streams of income with some hard work now, but continuing to earn money from that work long after.

Pat Flynn, of the Smart Passive Income blog, has much the same USP, teaching people how to create a passive income online through blogging, creating niche sites, and promoting affiliate offers. Passive income also includes creating products that provide royalties, which could range from books and music to oil and natural gas wells!

However, I’ve personally profited over the last few years from one other business that fits into the passive income category, and that’s network marketing. So, my USP has been geared toward helping you create a passive income, whichever route is best for you.  But in retrospect, I haven’t done a good enough job promoting that USP.  I have posted articles and held trainings from my blog here, BrentWehmeyer.com, but I created little cohesion to tie it all together and create a brand around myself.

I have come up with a plan though! And I would love YOUR feedback on the issue! Be sure to leave comments!

I’m going to use this blog as more of a personal space, updating on personal travels and such, and also putting up nuggets of information I think are valuable. But my main efforts will be over at www.RevolutionIncome.com, where discussions will be focused on helping with the Income Revolution…getting people away from unreliable sources of income working hourly wage and salaried jobs, instead creating passive streams of income that will continue to pay out long after.

I’ll continue building niche sites here and there, using SEO, article submissions, and free traffic techniques. I also spend a good deal of time in building my network marketing business which is where true long term passive income can be for you. Internet marketing changes so quickly that a lot of things you set up will work passively for a while, but unlikely that they will keep working for you 10-20 years from now.  But build an organization that works on your behalf in the right network marketing company, and that organization will continue to grow years and years from now.

That’s a little off the main point here, which is that things will be shifting, if I can just find time to get it all in place. I will be spending the bulk of my efforts in blogging over at RevolutionIncome.com.  But this will still serve as a general site about my life and it will link you over to wherever you need to go from here!
